Clinical features

High risk patients only:

  • Previous urosepsis
  • Traumatic insertion

If treating UTI, change catheter 24 to 48 hours into antibiotic therapy

Investigation

  • None unless there is evidence of UTI

  • Nil specific

Treatment

If not already on treatment:

GENTAMICIN IV (Dose as per calculator)

Single dose within 30-60 minutes before catheter change

If already on parenteral treatment for UTI, continue this and do not give additional Gentamicin
