Catheter change (with evidence of UTI)
Clinical features
High risk patients only:
- Previous urosepsis
- Traumatic insertion
If treating UTI, change catheter 24 to 48 hours into antibiotic therapy
Investigation
- None unless there is evidence of UTI
Infection Control
- Nil specific
Treatment
If not already on treatment:
GENTAMICIN IV (Dose as per calculator)
Single dose within 30-60 minutes before catheter change
If already on parenteral treatment for UTI, continue this and do not give additional Gentamicin
