First Line

Therapy

Co-amoxiclav 1.2g IV 8 hourly +/- Gentamicin IV

Notes:

Second Line

Therapy

Piperacillin-Tazobactam 4.5g IV 8 hourly +/- Gentamicin IV

Notes:

First Line - Penicillin Allergy

Therapy

Ceftriaxone 2g IV 24 hourly AND Metronidazole 500mg IV 8 hourly +/- Gentamicin IV

 

If severe penicillin allergy (i.e. anaphylaxis, angioedema, urticaria, respiratory distress): 

Vancomycin IV AND Gentamicin IV AND Metronidazole 500mg IV 8 hourly

Intrapartum pyrexia is defined as:

Pyrexia >38.0°C once during labour

or 

Pyrexia ≥37.5°C twice at least 1 hour apart during labour
