First Line

Therapy

Doxycycline 200mg PO STAT, then 100mg daily

 

If severe infection/sepsis:

Co-amoxiclav 1.2g IV 8 hourly

If severe infection/sepsis:

Levofloxacin 500mg PO/IV 12 hourly (consider safety issues)

Ensure sputum sample is sent.

Treatment duration: 5 days

If there is treatment failure/relapse check microbiology results and seek senior review.

Add Linezolid 600mg PO 12 hourly if MRSA suspected/confirmed
