Micro Organisms

Suspected pathogens:

  • PVL-producing Staph aureus
  • Group A Strep
  • Klebsiella pneumonia
  • TB

Notes

Treat as per Severe CAP guidance empirically. 

If MRSA history or suspected - ADD Linezolid 600mg PO 12 hourly

Consider possibility of TB - send 3x sputum samples requested for "AAFB culture and C&S" if suspicious history/radiology (e.g. protracted resp symptoms, fevers, night sweats, weight loss, upper lobe changes, lymphadenopathy)
