Transurethral or Transrectal Prostate Biopsy

Important: Therapy

Ciprofloxacin 1000mg PO 1 hour pre-procedure (consider safety issues)

or

Gentamicin IV (refer to Drug Dosing Table)

or

Co-trimoxazole 1.44g PO 1 hour pre-procedure

 

Notes:

Check previous urine sensitivities. 

Trimethroprim sensitive isolates can be regarded as susceptible to co-trimoxazole

Important: Therapy

ADD Teicoplanin (refer to Drug Dosing Table) to preferred 1st line prophylaxis
