Therapy

Antibiotic only indicated if contaminated wound or patient has risk factor according to Emergency Department (A&E) guidance, and should be balanced against clinical judgement.

Consider the necessity for surgical intervention, tetanus prophylaxis and topical cleaning

IV / Oral Flucloxacillin 1g single dose

If contaminated follow recommendations for traumatic digit amputation

IV / Oral Clarithromycin 500mg single dose

If contaminated - follow recommendations for traumatic digit amputation
