Antimicrobial prescribing: NHS Lothian
Combined Chlamydia/Gonorrhea NATT test on first pass urine (ensure correct sample container, see STI testing)
Urine for bacterial culture
Consider HIV and syphilis testing on blood
Consider mumps for patients with orchitis, contact Virology
Epididymitis and / or orchitis

Recommended total duration:14 days
Ofloxacin 200mg orally every 12 hours (*if manufacturer unable to supply 200mg strength, 400mg every 12 hours is acceptable).
See MHRA warning related to ofloxacin. Ofloxacin is associated with C.difficile infection.
If gonorrhoea suspected: (e.g. younger patient i.e. <35, new or multiple sexual partners, high risk sexual history, MSM, urethral discharge present)
ADD Ceftriaxone 1000mg as a single dose IM. Contact Chalmers Centre
Ensure Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea NAAT test result is reviewed.
Review urine culture results for targeted antimicrobial treatment.
