Review Sepsis in Obstetrics

Take blood cultures (10mls in each bottle) in patients with a fever or evidence of sepsis.

Antibiotic recommendation in mild infection

Recommended duration: 7-10 days

Recommended Antibiotic  Flucloxacillin 500mg every 6 hours orally
Penicillin allergy (if breast feeding) Erythromycin 500mg every 6 hours orally
Penicillin allergy (not breast feeding) Clarithromycin 500mg every 12 hours orally

Antibiotic recommendation in severe infection

Recommended duration = IV and oral = 7-10 days

Recommended Antibiotic Flucloxacillin 2g every 6 hours IV
Penicillin allergy
