Objective
To standardise the documentation of Vitamin K given to administration in babies after birth.
Procedure
IM Vitamin K should be discussed and consent gained from Parents. This should be done as early as possible on arrival to the intrapartum area.
IM Vitamin K, should where possible be administered by the named midwife providing care.
It is the responsibility of the named midwife to ensure correct documentation of the administration of IM Vitamin K.
Documentation of IM Vitamin K should be completed in Badgernet. No further recording is required. Professional requirement for midwives working within NHS GGC is covered by the National Midwifery Formulary and the NHS GGC PGD.
Only babies admitted directly to NNU will require a Kardex to be completed by the neonatal team.
