Hypertension Maternity Assessment (442)

Day Care will review these patients Monday to Friday, between 08.30 – 16.30 hours Patients attending with hypertension require urinalysis. If hypertension and proteinuria check FBC, U & Es, and LFT’s.

Note importance of Systolic Hypertension (SBP).

Medical review is required for the following:

  • BP ≥ 150/100mmHg
  • BP ≥ 140/90mmHg with proteinuria
  • ≥ 2+ proteinuria
  • Patients who are symptomatic i.e. Headache, visual disturbance, RUQ/epigastric pain or “just not feeling right”.
  • BP > 160/100mmHg – Immediate Review By Middle Grade Obstetrician – If for some reason this is not possible, page Consultant Obstetrician on call (office hours) or transfer patient to Labour Suite.
  • MAP ≥ 125 – Immediate Review By Middle Grade Obstetrician – If for some reason this is not possible, page Consultant Obstetrician on call (office hours) or transfer patient to Labour Suite.
