The Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 200312 came into force on 5th October 2005. To support the implementation of the Act and provide interpretative guidance a Code of Practice exists. In volume 2, chapter 7, page 199 paragraph 58-59 tasks agencies to produce a joint Psychiatric Emergency Plan (PEP) as a means to help manage the detention of a patient and aspects of multi agency working.
