Psychotherapy:
1. Brown D, Pedder J, Bateman, A. (2000). Introduction to Psychotherapy: An Outline of Psychodynamic Principles and Practice. Routledge: London. (covers the range of talking therapies)
2. Mind over Mood: Greenberger, D., and Padesky, C. (1995). Guildford. A patient based "how to" book covering cognitive behaviour therapy - but excellent reading for students wanting to discover what changes patients can make that can make a difference to how they feel
Psychiatric symptoms and diagnosis:
1. Sims A (2002) Symptoms in the Mind. An Introduction to Descriptive Psychopathology, Third Edition. Bailliere Tindall: London. (this will help you discover the language of psychiatry)
2. ICD10 (WHO, 1992), or the Pocket Guide to ICD-10 Classification of Mental and Behavioural Disorders. Cooper, J. (1994) Churchill Livingstone.
Medication
1. Stahl (2000) Essential Psychopharmacology (full of diagrams/graphs/illustrations - which are really helpful to understand this otherwise quite difficult subject!)
