  • Responsibility for the patient will hand over to the Emergency Department or receiving ward when the patient arrives.
  • Nursing staff must participate in a formal handover of the patient. This will entail passing over any relevant details of the patient’s clinical presentation and the details of the detention status.
  • The Certifying Doctor will hand over details of the case to the appropriate doctor within the department e.g. by phoning the receiving doctor in medicine or surgery.
