Role of the consultant psychiatrist

  • To complete an examination and detention paperwork.
  • The Psychiatrist arranging admission from the community must document an initial inpatient care plan in the Care Partner record. This should include:
    • Nursing observations
    • Leave status
    • Missing persons alert
    • Physical health investigations
    • Initial sedative medicines, both regular and as required.
  • The Psychiatrist arranging admission must also liaise directly with the receiving doctor in the Mental Health Unit (MHU).
