The team is made of a Team Leader, Specialist School Nurses, School Nurses, Staff Nurses, Nursery Nurses and Health Care Support Workers.
As part of the Scottish Government's planning for future services, lots of information is collected and most parents will be used to their child having regular growth reviews with the Health Visitor before starting school. Following on from this, your child will be offered a growth review in primary 1. Prior to doing this, a health questionnaire will be sent to home with your child in September for you to complete and return if you have any health concerns about your child.
Referral to the school nursing service can be made by education staff, parent's, other health professionals and children and young people.
There is a referral form for professionals but parents can call;

- West Team - 01896 663780 - Peebles, Galashiels, Selkirk, Melrose, Lauder and Earlston
Health Drop-In’s are available at lunch times in each of the High Schools weekly or fortnightly. Confidential advice and support is offered to pupils on a range of issues. Additional one-to-one support can be offered by the School Nursing Team when required.
Working alongside colleagues from education, the team may support in the development of individual health care plans for pupils for children and young people with allergies and anaphylaxis.
The School Nursing Team operate Monday to Friday and offer a ‘non-emergency' service.
People needing urgent medical attention should contact their GP practice in-hours, or NHS 24 out of hours. School Nursing services are delivered within the framework of the National Practice Model “Getting it Right for Every Child Model “
