Known Atrial Fibrillation

New Atrial Fibrillation

  • Confirm diagnosis
  • Take blood for FBC, U&E’s including Mg2+, LFT’s, TFT’s and glucose
  • Refer for outpatient echocardiogram (not required if the clinical suspicion of underlying valvular disease/LV dysfunction is low ie no cardiac murmur and no other ECG abnormalities and no cardiorespiratory symptoms).
  • Postpone surgery (unless necessary investigations and rate-control can be achieved within available timeframe).
