- Co-phenylcaine spray
- Nasal Cautery if bleeding site can be identified
- Nasal packing e.g. Merocel nasal tampons
- Consider coagulation status (warfarin etc)
- Admit to hospital
Nosebleeds can be serious and life threatening.
For patients who have had recurrent nosebleeds consider advising the patient to:
- Rest at home for the next 48 hours
- Do not pick or blow nose
- Do not bend down, strain, exercise, or lift anything heavy
- Avoid hot food and drinks, alcohol and smoking
