Formulation:

Solution for injection 100 units/mL

  • 3mL cartridge (Tresiba Penfill® for NovoPen®6 or NovoPen® Echo Plus)
  • 3mL pre-filled pen (Tresiba FlexTouch®)

Dosage:

As per SMC 856/13: treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults.

INSULIN DETEMIR

Formulation and dosage details

Formulation:

Injection 100 units/mL (specialist use only)

  • 3mL cartridge (Levemir® for NovoPen® 6  or NovoPen® Echo Plus)
  • 3mL pre-filled disposable injection device (Levemir® FlexPen®, InnoLet®) 

Dosage:

As per SMC 1126/16: for treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents and children aged 1 year and above.
SMC restriction: in patients unable to achieve good glycaemic control with established insulins.

INSULIN GLARGINE

Therapy notes

Insulin glargine 300 units/mL (Toujeo®) has similar efficacy but is not bioequivalent to insulin glargine 100 units/mL (Abasaglar®, Lantus®) and is therefore not interchangeable without dose adjustment. When changing to Toujeo®, patients should start with the same insulin glargine dose then a small dose titration may be needed.

  • 3mL pre-filled pen (Abasaglar® KwikPen®) (Lantus SoloStar®)

  • 1·5mL pre-filled pen (Toujeo® SoloStar®) 
  • 3mL pre-filled pen (Toujeo® DoubleStar®)
