COLESTYRAMINE

Therapy notes

  • Other drugs should be taken at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after colestyramine to reduce possible interference with absorption. 

Formulation and dosage details

Formulation:

Powder 4 grams/sachet

Dosage:

Pruritus: 4 to 8 grams daily.
Bile acid diarrhoea: 4 to 12 grams daily in water or fruit juice.

COLESEVELAM

Colesevelam is used off-label for the treatment of bile acid diarrhoea post-surgery in patients intolerant of colestyramine.

Tablets 625mg (s)

Dosage:

Up to 10 tablets daily, under specialist recommendation off-label.
