02/07/24: acetylcysteine effervescent tablets 600mg added.
Consider carbocisteine in patients with COPD and chronic cough productive of sputum. Continue if there is symptomatic improvement. If there is no benefit after a 4-week trial, stop therapy. Nebulised sodium chloride 0·9% solution has no place as a mucolytic in either COPD or asthma.
Capsules 375mg
750mg 3 times daily initially, then 375mg 4 times daily as condition improves.
Oral liquid 250mg/5mL
750mg 3 times daily initially, then 375mg 4 times daily as condition improves.
Nebuliser solution 2·5mg (2500 units)/2·5mL (specialist initiation)
Effervescent tablets 600mg
If there is no benefit after a 4-week trial, stop therapy.
